It is indeed time for a change. Far too many of us live lives of quiet desperation due to our fears and self-doubt. We live in one of the richest countries in the world, yet we experience "lack" in so many areas of our lives. In the United States, we have one of the greatest gifts...the gift of freedom. The freedom to live our lives as we choose each and every day. With such a powerful gift, then why do so many of us give it away to jobs we hate, relationships that are less than fulfilling and find ourselves constantly doing things that we say we "have to" do? How many times a day do you talk to someone and all they can do is complain about what they don't have or what isn't going right for them?
In our country, where freedom reigns and we have the ability to make personal choices, did you know that if you tracked Americans from the ages of 20 to 65, over a 45-year period, you would find the following by the age of 65:
|
 |
- 4%
are considered financially independent (defined as annual income of $40,000 or more) - 36%
would have died due to stress related illness
- 56%
will retire financially destitute with a median annual income of less that $7,200
- 79%
will have total assets of less than $35,000
- 80%
will have an annual income under $15,000 including Social Security
- 85%
will have a net worth of less than $250
Did you also know it is estimated today that…
- 92%
of a family's disposable income goes towards personal debt payments
- Every 1½ minutes
someone is laid-off his or her job
- 58 million
adults between the ages of 20-74 are overweight
- 62%
of our society is considered clinically obese
- 300,000
people die each year due to poor diet and no physical activity
- $33 billion
per year is spent on weight reduction products
- $100 billion
per year is attributed to health care costs associated with obesity
- 57.7%
of marriages end in divorce
- 1 in 6 people will experience serious, function-impairing depression in their lifetime
- 45%
of our 8th grade children have experimented with alcohol and 25% with drugs
Does this sound like freedom? We all know the truth. We all have a choice in how we live our lives and how they will turn out. Thus, we believe there is a need for a shift of consciousness in the world today. As a society and as individuals we are losing at the game of life. If we do not make a change, we will only continue to decline as the numbers above rise.
Now, for a moment, consider who takes on the burden of the costs associated with the choices we make each day? If we think about it carefully, it is our corporations, our small businesses and society as a whole. That is why Randy Mitchell & Companies (RMC) is committed to work not only with individuals but also with the businesses that are deeply affected by these statistics.
On September 11, 2001, we all got a wake up call. Our freedom was challenged. We believe now is the time for us all to truly get clear on what our lives are about. It is time to come together and focus on what is important to us as individuals, as business entities, as communities and as a nation. Right now especially, corporations and small businesses need tools to help their employees gain their focus again and get back to the values and mission that will make this country strong again. Productivity factors are significantly low because people are living in fear and not able to live full out. Even prior to the tragic events of September 11th, most people were just doing enough to get by. USA Today reported recently that over 85% of people dislike or hate their jobs. What kind of performance or service does a company get from someone who does not want to be there? We believe that it is possible to bring a sense of vision and purpose back into the work environment and to create a shift in consciousness within the workplace. When people can see the value they bring to their company as well as how their company can support them in fulfilling their own purpose and goals in life, then they are able to perform at a much higher level ultimately benefiting not only the company but the individual themselves, their community and the country overall.
